Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week – Micah Larkins, Northwestern State – Jr. – Princeton, La.Larkins ran the fastest 100m time in the nation (10.02) after running his season best time of 10.23, behind teammate Amir James’ time of 10.22 in the Texas Relays preliminaries. Larkins’ time is first in the NCAA East Region and leads the conference by 0.06 seconds. He also ran a leg in the 4x100m relay final that tallied the ninth-fastest time in the country (39.45) and fifth in the East Region. This time is also the third-fastest in school history and second all-time in the Southland Conference. Additionally, the NSU 4×1 relay leads the second-fastest team in the conference in the event by 0.26 seconds after its time at the Texas Relays. Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots. Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week – Devin King, Southeastern Louisiana – Sr. – Kentwood, La.King broke his own school and the Southland Conference pole vault record after clearing 19-00.25 inches to take second place in the University Elite Division at the Texas Relays on Saturday. King became both the first Lion and first Southland vaulter to clear the 19-foot mark. He tied South Dakota’s Chris Nilsen at the height with Nilsen taking first in fewer attempts. They are tied for the best mark in the country this season. This marks the third straight men’s track award for the Demons and third consecutive field honor for the Lions. Southland Athletes of the Week are presented by Northwestern State next heads to Nacogdoches, Texas, for the SFA Carl Kight Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
