Neymar re-opens legal battle with Barca over £33m claim
Neymar has reportedly launched a third legal case against Barcelona in pursuit of £5.6million in what is his third claim against his former club. The Brazilian claims he had to make a series of payments to secure his move from Santos to Barca in 2013, which he is demanding are paid back. Neymar’s claims also include a sum of money he says he is owed in unpaid loyalty bonuses from his four years at the Nou Camp. According to El Mundo, the 28-year-old’s latest case takes his total claims against Barcelona to £33m. But Barca have no interest in paying him any money and aren’t even considering making the forward a counter offer. Neymar left Barca for Paris Saint-Germain in world-record a £198m deal in 2017 but came close to returning to the club last summer. Neymar and the tag team when the going was good at the Nou camp Seven years on from his move to Barca, his former club Santos are also embroiled in a legal dispute over other alleged unpaid fees they claim they are owed. Santos believe they are owed £3.75m after Barca failed to fulfil the second of two friendlies against them, which was agreed as part of his transfer to Spain. Back in 2017, Neymar was also ordered to stand trial after being accused of fraud over the deal, and that court case could be held this year. Former Wimbledon champion Jana Novotna has passed away at the age of 49 after she lost her battle with cancer.According to the Women’s Tennis Association Novotna “died peacefully, surrounded by her family”.The former Czech tennis star had lost in the Wimbledon final in 1993 and 1997 before beating Nathalie Tauziat to win the 1998 edition.On her painful exit, WTA chief executive Steve Simon said: “Jana was an inspiration both on and off court to anyone who had the opportunity to know her.”“Her star will always shine brightly in the history of the WTA. Our condolences and our thoughts are with Jana’s family.” she added.Apart from her Grand Slam win at Wimbledon, she also claimed 12 Grand Slam doubles titles and four in mixed doubles.Jana Novotna, who reached a career high no. 2 in the WTA rankings, was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame in 2005.
