The money for the grant would come from the Alaska Transportation Alternatives Program through DOT. Facebook0TwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享A biking group in Kenai and Soldotna is working with the Department of Transportation on obtaining a grant to build a bike trail on Beaver Loop Road. Boettger: “I’m working with the city planning department to get together a cost estimate and determine if any other permitting would be necessary for that.” Representatives from the BIK&S group spoke to the Kenai City Council at their meeting last week about the proposed trail. Ben Boettger told the council that the grant would require a partial match from the city: “I’m working on an application for a grant from DOT that would largely fund a trail from the Kenai Spur/Bridge Access intersection to the Beaver Loop intersection. I am working on writing the DOT grant on behalf of the Bikes group. If the City of Kenai were to be a sponsor of the project it would be a minimum 9.4% match.” The application to DOT is due by January 31. The city council is expected to introduce a resolution for the match at their meeting on January 16.
