With Ilani Casino Resort expected to open next spring, the $510 million center will soon embark on a big hiring spree.Representatives for the Cowlitz Tribe and Salishan-Mohegan announced plans Friday to take part in the Portland Career Fair this week to meet employees hoping to fill the 1,000-plus jobs at the casino. The casino will need workers from the gaming tables to meal service, from security to IT support.Applicants will be formally reviewed as jobs become open, mostly after Jan. 1, 2017, the company said. And, according to spokeswoman Shannon Woods, third-party companies — like the 15 restaurants, bars and retailers slated to open there — will hire employees independently. Some jobs are already open for applications, such as a table games pit manager or senior wastewater plant operator. Others are currently labeled as “future consideration,” meaning applications will be vetted for interviews early next year.Kara Fox-LaRose, the casino’s president and general manager, said 40 to 50 percent of the positions will be tied to the gaming sector. They will host their own dealer school in January.“What’s important to note is that if there are individuals seeking a job in the gaming environment, we are offering training to perform that particular job function,” she said.
